Cozy Winter Style

Hat (similar) // Scarf // Sweater // Leggings // Boots (similar)
Winter is officially here in Minnesota, and it is C.O.L.D. Below zero temperatures and snow have brought us a pretty, and very chilly, winter wonderland. I took some family photos of my parents and siblings the other weekend, and we snapped a few shots of this cozy outfit while we were at it. I am in love with this sweater from Old Navy, and with the promos going right now you can scoop it up for less than $20! The scarf is a cult favorite by BP, and is so cozy and easy to throw on. This look is perfect for those family get togethers with lots of food and time spent by the fire. I am so excited to spend time with loved ones, and most importantly, to eat all of the holiday foods! Yet another reason why leggings are always the best option for holiday parties ;-)

Thoughts Lately

Oh my goodness, I keep waiting for the day where I feel as though I can keep up with life. In the past week we battled a week long bout of what I think was Influenza for Jackson, sleep trained Lincoln, and now both myself and the baby are battling what seems to be a milder version of what Jackson had. Throw in the holidays and work on top of that, and it all gets really crazy really fast!

I love this little space of mine. It has become a baby book, a journal, a place for me to keep track of crafts, recipe, and fashion finds. I have met some of the most incredible women, and have been truly amazed by the support and friendship that I have received through people who live far away. I get to look back on photos on my sweet babies, and read my thoughts and perceptions as they were in that moment. It is so easy to forget, and life changes so fast when you have children, and I am so thankful that I am able to reflect and remember the littlest of things thanks to Stang&Co.

With all of that being said, I think one of my New Years resolutions (besides dropping 5-10 pounds, working out every single day, and eating the best diet ever of course!) is to be more intentional with this space. I often have so many things I want to write about, that I often do not know where to begin. While it is fun for me to pull from different genres of the blog world, I also know it can create inconsistency. So this is where my question for anyone who follows me on this little space comes in. What do YOU most want to see when you come to this blog? Are you a family member who likes keeping up with my kiddos? Do you like seeing my fashion finds? Are you most likely to click on over when it involves home building, décor, and projects? Life has been crazy lately, and as a result I feel that this blog has been a bit all over the place as well! One of my greatest joys in this space is knowing I am sharing stories that others enjoy, or pieces of advice or fun finds that others are able to use in their own lives! Let me know your thoughts, and thank you so much to all who follow along. It means so much to know that I touched someone, made someone laugh, or simply have made someone who doesn't live close by feel a bit more connected to my family! Here is to making 2017 the best blogging year yet!

Lincoln 7 Months

Oh my goodness. To say that Lincoln has changed in the past month would be the understatement of the year. While he still holds his feisty, independent personality, he truly has become such a happy, sweet baby. Long gone are the hour long crying sessions, refusal to lay on the floor, and dislike of sleep. He has a giggle that will melt your heart, eyes that twinkle when he smiles, and the most perfect dimple on his right cheek that I could kiss all day long. He is at that most perfect stage where, if someone asked you to describe a 'baby', it would be him. Sweet, squishy, and loveable baby perfection.

Age: Seven months
Height: 29 inches. Apparently I got a little generous in my measurements last month, because he measured 28.5 at his 6 month appointment. However, measuring him he is in fact 29 inches now! This places him at the 98th percentile.
Weight: 23 pounds. Again, he must have eaten a huge meal the last time I weighed him because he weighed less at his 6 month appointment than I had measured, and he is now actually at 23 pounds. Even so this has him sitting at the 98th percentile. He is pretty darn snug in his 12 month jammies, and basically all of his clothing has moved to the 12-18 month size. He wears size 3 shoes and size 4 diapers.
Milestones: He started rolling over both ways this month. Before he would roll off of his back onto his belly but then get stuck, and as a result usually would scream shortly after. Now he can roll in just about every direction whenever he wants. He is also scooting, so while he cannot crawl forward yet, he moves backwards pretty quickly and I really cannot leave him unattended and trust to come back to find him where I left him. He has scooted across the living room and wedged himself underneath the Christmas tree, and can maneuver himself to get just about any object in his sight. He is not quite getting up on all fours yet, but he is really pulling his knees up and getting his little booty in the air. He is trying so hard to crawl! He is a really determined little guy, and the more independence and body control he gains, the happier he seems to become!
Sleep: HALLELUJAH HE HAS SLEPT THROUGH THE NIGHT! I have another blog post to highlight what we did, but ultimately we did force a few tears. He was back to waking up 3-4 times a night, and we were about to lose our minds. Not only that, but he was napping terribly as well, many days getting by on one 30-45 minute nap. We decided that the best thing for everyone involved as to do a little tough love. A week of tears, no matter how hard, seemed worth it compared to seven months of miserable sleep. Again, I plan to share our process soon, but he only had to 'cry' for one night. He woke up crying once the first and second night but put himself back to sleep, and since then, he has slept 12 hours every night! Not only that, but we are laying him down awake and he is putting himself to sleep. I cannot express how much control we feel like we have gained back over our lives with this new sleep schedule! And, Lincoln is liking it too and is benefitting because the poor baby was not getting near the amount of sleep he needed, and we know it was affecting his mood throughout the day. This is just the best and by far the greatest area of change this month.

Best Moments: Sleep. Sleep. Sleep. Watching him learn to play with his brother. Playing games and really having him begin to interact with those around him. And dressing him up in all of the Christmas jammies. That is probably just a best moment for mom, but hey, I can't help myself!
Worst Moments: He came down with a random stomach bug one weekend this month, and we checked on him during nap to find that he had thrown up all over himself. Poor baby, and always so scary because you worry about them choking. Over the following few hours, he proceeded to throw up pretty much  non-stop. After one of the instances, his little eyes and lips actually turned blue for a few seconds, and it scared me so much! The color returned quickly, and after about 3 hours he didn't throw up at all and seemed pretty good to go. There is just nothing worse than a sick baby!
Health: Aside from the random 4 hour stomach bug, he has been pretty healthy! He had a cold but got over it fairly quickly. I really believe that breastfeeding helps to keep my babies pretty well protected from illness during their infancy, and for that I am grateful. The scariest part of having a sick baby is that they are incapable of expressing how they are feeling or their needs. Having some extra protection by nursing is fine by me!
Eating: This guy just does not like baby food one bit. He will get a bit adventurous when he is offered the veggies, but he purses his lips and outright refuses basically any fruit. He does, however, love real food, so I have conceded and am just going with the flow of what feels natural and allowing him to taste things as the opportunities present themselves. He loved the sweet potatoes he got to try over Thanksgiving, and goes nuts when given a teeny piece of bread, or a potato chip crumb if he is really lucky. He also ended up eating nearly all of the pineapple off of my Hawaiian pizza last week! I couldn't feed it to him fast enough! We are basically moving in the direction of baby led weaning this month, especially when I figure that, at 7 months, he is not far off from being able to feed himself very soft foods. I have no plans to buy more baby food! Feeding Lincoln has been an entirely different experience than feeding his big brother (here is Jacksons 7 month post!), who by this point was eating 2-3 solid meals every single day. I am very curious to see how this process goes moving forward for us!
Teeth: He has his two bottom teeth! Ah, I love the toothless, gummy smiles of babies, but seriously is there anything cuter than when a baby has those two bottom teeth?! I think not!
Likes: Eating the food of anyone around him, the baby channel, scooting backwards, grabbing his toes, eating his toes, giving kisses, being tickled, being thrown in the air, when his big brother talks to him, being held, going on walks, puppies, and he has fallen in love with taking baths! He loves to stand while the water finishes running and put his hand in the stream, and then he loves to kick and splash like crazy!
Dislikes: When someone walks by without picking him up, the sleepy cat cartoon on the baby channel (he is all smiles until it comes on, and then he gets MAD!), when Jackson gives him unwanted hugs, basically all baby food. His list of dislikes has just been getting smaller and small every month, and we are not complaining! He really has become such a happy guy!

Lincoln Michael, you are the sweetest soul and have become such a joy in our lives. You have tested us and pushed us on many occasions, but the reward of watching you grow and thrive has been more than worth it. We are entering such a magical stage with you, and know that we are all going to start having so much fun together. We love you to pieces, honey man!

Holiday Home Tour

Ah! It is finally time for a holiday home tour! I swear, decorating for Christmas is one of the things I was most excited about in our new house. Nothing breaks in a home and makes it feel cozier than the twinkle of Christmas lights. I continue to build on our collection every year, especially since deciding on a bit of a theme recently! I also realized once I started decorating that we have ZERO table space in our new house! No entryway table, no living room accent tables, no sofa tables, nothing. I mean, dressers and dining room tables do take priority when moving ;-) So, some of my décor sadly just does not have a place to go this year. An entryway table is next on my list for furniture, but unfortunately I probably won't have that before the holidays. Check back in 2017 to see my Christmas village in action ;-)

The entryway. I would love to have the stockings by the fireplace, but little hands are iffy. I just don't trust stocking holdings and a toddler yet ;-) But they fit perfectly on our railing off of the entryway!

I bought Michael and myself basic stockings and wrote our names on with gold glitter our first year together, and they just stuck for me. These stockings were like $2 a piece, but I kind of love them. Maybe one day when I know the family is 100% complete I will buy some fancier ones, but I kind of love handwriting the names on my babies stockings.

This was the entryway originally. That snowman was affectionately named 'Daddy Snowman' by Jackson, and is now resting peacefully in the garbage after taking a little bit too much abuse from Jackson :-( Poor boy has been walking around whimpering 'Daddy Snowman' ever since we tossed him. I actually just bought a replacement that is slightly less breakable so hopefully that does the trick!

I am in love with our mantle! Both the banner and garland are Target finds this year. I have a Fesh Balsam candle nestled in the garland so our house smells like a Christmas tree even though we have an artificial :-)
I knew I needed the pillow with the first letter of our last name the second I saw it. I am also obsessed with our plaid throw.
Ok so my parents dropped the ball on Elf on the Shelf. We had three elves that moved and got into trouble while we were sleeping as kids before it was even a 'thing'. So instead of getting the mainstream elf, I went online and found an identical copy of the ones my parents have. It is so special to me to carry on the 'original elves' that I grew up with!
I love my countdown house. Jackson caught on quickly and happily repeats 'candy door!' whenever I tell him it is time to open one up for a Rolo ;-)
I am obsessed with these mugs from Hobby Lobby! They have an entire matching dinnerware set actually..I am debating going back for the rest!
The candy cane holder is passed onto me from my mom. I love having little pieces from my childhood!

I love having a fun candy dish in the kitchen. Especially now that I can fill it with all the fun Christmas themed treats!

Our garland. We kind of did a sad job of hanging it, but it sure looks pretty lit up at
night!

The tree :-)
The view from upstairs. All the heart eyes!
I will never grow tired of how cozy our living room is at Christmas time.
And one more view, because I can't get enough!

Christmas Wish List

Every year, I seem to have a harder and harder time creating a wish list for my self during the holidays. If I want something, I usually just buy it ;-) But once I started putting things together, I realized there are so many goodies that I would be just thrilled to receive! Some of these are fun items I wouldn't normally splurge on for myself, and others are a bit more practical. Yes, I have a console table on this list. If someone magically dropped off a beautiful piece of furniture for my entryway, they would win my heart forever! And how perfect is the three tone MK watch!? I have had my eye on it forever, I think I may need to finally bite the bullet and get it. I wear my gold MK watch every single day, and would love to have it in a different metal for days where I decide to wear something besides gold jewelry. The perfume is one of my all time favorites, it is so fresh and sweet smelling! A bar necklace with my boys initials on it is high on my list. I love how they look and also love the sentiment! The rest of these odd and end gifts are so much fun, and I imagine any lady would be thrilled to receive!

What is on your Christmas wish list!? I love to see what others are able to find!

I am linking up with Sarah and Victoria for their holiday linkup today!

Friday Favorites-First of December

It's officially the most wonderful time of the year! I feel like Friday snuck up on me this week. Between appointments for the kids and being out at health fairs for work, I felt like there wasn't enough time in the day. Of course, maybe I should stay up later than 8:30pm and actually catch up on things ;-) But who wants to do that when sleep is such a hot commodity! We don't have much on the calendar this weekend, aside from sleep training Lincoln *insert wide eyed emoji here* Lately he has been up 3, if not 4 times a night, and this mama just can't hang anymore. I started this week by at least not nursing him to sleep, as that has been his main method of dozing off lately. Instead I have been rocking and bouncing him, which is at least progress towards eliminating night feedings. But there will likely be some tough love this weekend in the hopes that everyone will start getting some better sleep, so wish me luck! Now, onto my favorite things this week.

1. Gap Tunic Tee
You guys. I have been on the hunt for some basic long sleeve tees. They exist just about everywhere, but I always find little things I don't like. Too loose, not long enough, rides up too much, and all too often the main culprit is sleeves that aren't long enough. Well, the search is over. I found these over at the Gap, and am OBSESSED. They are so ridiculously soft, and the sleeves are incredibly long (as in, I have very long arms and these are even long on me). I ordered it the Tall size, but I honestly think I would have been happy in a regular fit too. The quality is amazing, and they have a super wide cuff too, which is great. Right now with the discount online they are only $12, and are worth every single penny!

2. Christmas Tree
Without a doubt, our Christmas tree is one of my favorite things this week. We went with this one, and could not be happier. Assembly was a breeze, and the branches have a memory shape, meaning almost no fluffing. And pre-lit, because do I want to string lights on a 12 foot tree? #nope I haven't managed to get the angel on top yet, because despite being tall I'm not quite that tall and I need a ladder! But in the meantime here is a teeny sneak peek :-)

3. Sweatpants
During all of the Black Friday/Cyber Monday goodness, I stumbled upon these sweatpants at Old Navy. I know I know, men's section. But honestly I hate how fitted all women's 'loungewear' is. Isn't the point of lounging to be comfortable? And yoga pants simply do not work for throwing on over gym clothes when you need to bundle up before going to the gym. And, as always, I had all the heart eyes when I saw that these come in TALL. I bought some for both Mike and myself. Just in time for the holidays when I begin eating my weight in cookies ;-)

4. Sweater
I have been on the hunt for an off the shoulder sweater, and have had a hard time finding one that I really liked that was also at a good price point. And I saw this one at Express and wanted it immediately. I ordered it in blush, and am so in love with it! It is soft, a nice length, and the neckline fabric is wide enough that it stays off the shoulder. I swear so many off the shoulder tops never stay off the shoulder and awkwardly ride up, but this one stays put.

5. Disney Ornament
So I am a huge fan of animated ornaments. I have a few, but my mom has one on her tree that is the Disney World castle, and when you press the button it plays When You Wish Upon A Star and shoots off fireworks. It seriously feels like you are at Disney World and gives me all sorts of warm fuzzies. Well, this year she surprised me and bought me one of my own! Last year I used to turn it on for Jackson every morning when dropping him off at their house, and I was so excited to show him this one. He lit up when seeing it, and learned quickly to say 'dassel' aka castle. We asked him 'isn't it beautiful?' to which he replied 'ooooh AW-FUL!' And now will smile and call it 'aw-ful' whenever we light it up. It is precious and perfect in every way. I wish I could bottle up the magic of the holidays with kiddos. It is so special and brings back all of those things that were so magical when I was a child myself!

I hope you all have a weekend full of twinkly lights, hot chocolate, and all of the Christmas things!

Jackson Lately (28 months)

First off, I hate that I just referred to him as 28 months. I promise to never be that mother who tells you that her four year old is 53 months old. But for the sake of this post, writing '28 months' was a little bit easier than writing '2 and a quarter'. Anywho. Jackson is truly a different child than he was just a few short months ago. His little world has changed in so many ways, and he is blossoming into the sweetest, most fun little boy. He is silly, cuddly, loves to play games, read books, and run run run all day long. With infants, you really see big milestones every month or so, and therefore that is why I always find these monthly updates to be something I love to do and look back on. After hitting one year, I cut back, simply because drastic changes don't take place regularly anymore. However, as I reflect back on the last 3-4 months, I have a hard time even wrapping my head around the changes in our sweet boy. He has grown so much, and we love him so fiercely that it sometimes hurts. He is the sweetest, happiest little soul, and I want to remember every possible detail of him at this precious age that I can.

Growth
Jackson is still one tall little man. At a doctor's appointment last week, he measured around 39 inches tall. So he has grown about an inch since turning two! He only weighed in at 34 pounds, and that was with shoes, a sweater, and a coat on. He is growing in length but not so much in weight, and it shows! He really has become a skinny guy. Long gone are any baby rolls, there is seriously not an ounce of fat on him. He is wearing mostly size 3T clothing, but is on the high end thanks to his height. He is wearing 4T pajamas, all 3T pants, and his shirts are some 3Ts with all new things I am buying the next size up. He wears size 6 diapers, again more for the length than anything else. He is rocking a size 9 shoe. His growth has definitely slowed, but he is still definitely a tall little boy. Who happens to also be able to grow the most incredible head of hair I have ever seen. It is seriously so thick, so dark, with the most perfect amount of curl. Not going to lie, I am jealous and wish I could have his hair for myself!

Speech
Without a doubt, speech has been our biggest change in the last few months. Right after turning two, we had Jackson assessed for speech, as he was still saying less than ten words. He did indeed qualify, yet before we even began weekly sessions with the therapist, he started saying a lot of new words. In fact, the first time she came out to the house, the pathologist was pretty much floored by his progress! We are keeping up with the services as long as they will have us, because if anything we are viewing it as some extra learning and education, not only in the speech department, but in regards to sharing, understanding plurality and sentences, and using his words rather than emotions to convey his wants and needs. Truly though, he seems to have gone from the bottom 5th percentile in terms of his speech to what I would consider very, very average. He went from exploring new words singularly to stringing two word phrases together in a matter of weeks. He knows his colors well, and will identify all objects or items by color. Except for red! For whatever reason, he just cannot or will not say the word red. All other colors are fair game though. Orange ball, white snowman, black hat, yellow duck. In fact, very rarely does he refer to something without using an object identifier such as the color.
He also is communicating his wants and needs so much more! I cannot express how much it helps everyone for him to say 'no dees (more please)' when handing us his empty cup at the dinner table versus throwing a tantrum. He will go to the pantry and ask for specific items, like 'kah-kurrs (crackers)' or 'cereal (which he says pretty darn clear!)'. Within the past 1-2 weeks, he has gained a clear understanding of the words yes and no. Believe it or not, our little toddler had never told us no up until a few weeks ago! While I cannot complain about not being told no, it was truly frustrating and limiting on knowing what he wanted. We can now ask him if he wants a snack, if he is ready to take a shower, or if he wants to watch a certain show. And speaking of shows, Wallykazam is his all time favorite, and every morning within minutes of waking he will bring me the 'hote (remote)' and ask 'YALLY DEES (Wally please)'. It is so precious, however I am officially getting sick of dear Wally ;-)
Perhaps the most exciting progress with his speech is that now he is progressing to 3, and I would guess soon 4 word sentences. He is saying things like 'Daddy, Wally please!', 'Mama, cereal please', and others like my personal favorite, 'ni-night daddy snowman!' We have two snowmen, the big one is 'daddy snowman' and the small one is 'Jackson snowman' :-) These likely seem simple to many, but when you heard almost no speech for two years, to see this progress in what seems to be overnight, we are so overjoyed. Every little thing he says is music to our ears, and we could listen to him talk all day.
A few of our favorite things he says (and some of which he has already corrected):
-BOOO-USH: how he first learned to say please, and which he still always 'signs' with while saying. So precious!
-hi-ya-see: pumpkin. I will never quite understand this one. But again, precious.
-happle-shauce: applesauce.
-ho-mane: snowman.
-cur-kel: circle
-see-son: Jackson
-DASSEL, OH AW-FUL!: Castle, oh beautiful! :-)
-haaak; hug
-busss: he says bus very clear, but the 'S' is so pronounced and I love when he says it!
-Nia: grandma. I think this one just might stick around for the long haul. Jackson always asks to go to 'Nia House' and has thrown a couple of tantrums when his requests have been denied ;-)

Lifestyle Changes
Since turning two, Jackson has had his world turned upside down a bit! We moved out of my in-laws and into our new house, which he seemed to adjust to pretty darn quickly. Much to our relief, he mastered our big staircase quickly as well, and goes up and down with ease all day long. He loves our house! And it is so wonderful to finally give him his own space to do things. He also started daycare. I certainly think this had some effect on his speech, and I do not take lightly the fact that I truly think the provider we found is a blessing from above. She is so kind, great with the kids, and easy to work with. She allows the speech pathologist to come to her house during daycare hours, meaning I do not have to take time off of work weekly to do so. She has Jackson eating new foods that he has refused to touch until recently. Even on his bad days, Jackson goes to Kristi in the mornings and is clearly so comfortable in her arms. She tells me exciting stories about his progress and gets emotional because she is so excited to see him thrive. She is just a gem, and I am so thankful for her and the fact that she made a transition everyone was nervous for so easy.
He is really growing into his role as a big brother more. While he has never been overly jealous of Lincoln, he has certainly been uninterested. He would go all day and rarely, if at all, even acknowledge the baby in the room. As Lincoln grows and becomes more interactive though, they are playing together more and more every day. Sharing is not a strong suit just yet, but I have seen him give some of his not so favorite toys to his baby brother. They like to smile and giggle at each other while riding in the back seat of the car. Jackson will often drop what he is doing, come over and say 'HUG' while wrapping his arms around Lincoln. I am enjoying watching their bond grow so much, and I just know in another few months they will be getting into all sorts of trouble together!
While most often sweet, the terrible twos are definitely upon us. He hates being forced to leave wherever we are, whether it be to go to daycare in the morning, to leave his grandparents house, it really does not matter. He just does not like to 'go'. We have strapped him into the car on cold winter days with no jacket or shoes on, because it's the only way we could do it. He likes to be defiant at the dinner table and always has to make a point when he does not want something by pushing it away. Heaven forbid he be forced to look at the food he is refusing ;-) There have been tantrums where he lays on the floor and screams incessantly for what appears to be no reason. He often looks at his grandma's dog with an evil little smile before unleashing his abuse upon her. He is definitely pushing the limits on what he can and cannot do, and exploring his boundaries. Which is why we really do try to stick to our guns and dish out some tough love where it is necessary.
One of his new favorite things is taking showers! Which is just fine by us, because quite honestly no one in our house really likes bath time. It is just such a process! Our new shower in our master bathroom is pretty big, so we are able to put Jackson in there.,aim the shower head at the corner, and stand in there with him without needing to get wet ourselves. He is about the cutest little thing ever when he stands with his back to the water, he loves it! He scrubs his little body with the loofah, and has so much fun. And mom and dad love that we don't have to crouch down on our hands and knees for baths ;-)
We really have not started with potty training. I will say in part it is laziness on our end. While I know the end result will be easier, training is not a quick or easy task, and tackling it just has not been high on our agenda. We have dealt with Jackson sticking his little fingers into dirty diapers, which is just the worst and has resulted in an occasional need to wipe down the carpet or walls. ICK. In the past few weeks, though, his awareness has grown, and the minute after he goes (and quite often even when he has not gone) he will come up to us and announce 'poop'! He often will even grab a diaper on his own, and go lay down on the floor ready to be changed. We have also noticed he will tell us 'poop' before actually going! So, we are definitely ready to start making an effort to sit him on the potty as much as possible, especially before putting on pajamas at night around the times he usually goes. We will see how it goes! I have no idea how or when he will officially be potty trained, but we are definitely entering the early stages I think.

Sleep
Praise the Lord, do a happy dance, cry tears of joy, but this boy is finally sleeping well! We had about a month in the new house where bedtime was, once again, a nightmare. And then, Mike worked some sort of magic and finally got Jackson to stay in bed and fall asleep on his own. This did not happen easily, and there were certainly a lot of tears and some tough love involved. But finally, finally, it worked. We still lay with him for a few minutes, but once he is ready he will roll over to face the wall, and we are able to leave the room and know he will stay in there. No more getting up out of bed and turning the light on twenty different times. HALLELUJAH. We lay him down around 8pm, and what used to be at least an hour routine every night is down to 10-15 minutes. He sleeps through the night nearly every night, I would say once a week he still will have a night where we need to go settle him down or he tries to get into our bed around 3am, but those nights are becoming pretty rare. He did go through a terrible week after daylights savings time, where he was waking up at 4am every day. Fortunately that ended and he is back to waking up anywhere between 5:30-6:30am. Unfortunately these kids of ours just don't like to sleep in.

It is so true when they say that the days are long but the years are short. Some days feel like a never ending uphill battle, and yet I look back on the past few months and cannot believe this is the same little boy. He has grown and changed so much, and is becoming such a little person. We cherish our new conversations with him, watching his excitement over learning new words, and his darling little quirks and habits that are so unique to him. Mom and Dad love you so much Jackson!
