Friday Favorites

Happy Friday! Friday is my favorite day of the week, and it is made even sweeter when it is a Friday spent off with my family! We are taking the boys to the Mall of America and are going to Underwater World. Jackson is loving sharks and fish lately, and we both think he is going to be in heaven. We are bringing Lincoln along, too. I am so excited to finally be getting to that stage where we can start to enjoy things with both kiddos. The weather is supposed to be icky this weekend (with highs that are only in the 20s!) We figured this was the perfect opportunity to get the kids out, because who wants to do an indoor outing once spring weather arrives and we want to do all of the things outside!? And Ikea happens to be next door, so my mama heart may just explode over the goodness that this day will bring! Before heading off on our little adventure, I have to share some Friday Favorites!

1. Graphic Tee

I am not a graphic tee fan. I made a decision before having my babies that I would not buy the tees covered in slogans and characters. Of course, as they grow I make exceptions. Jackson is loving Toy Story, so I will obviously cave to buying a t-shirt with Buzz on it! But for the most part, I like to keep their style classic. But an old skating coach of mine sent me a link to this strong like mom tee this week (hi Stacy!), and she was so right that I needed them for my boys! I love the message it sends. Most little boy stuff boasts 'strong like daddy', or 'daddy's tough guy', but mamas are some of the strongest people out there! It was so sweet of her to think of me and share!

2. Standing

My little man is standing! Well, he is using the wall a bit for assistance, but he is so darn proud of himself! In all honesty, I was trying to snap a few pictures of him, and decided to give it a go kind of on accident. And he held himself up like it was nothing! He can stand without the wall, too, but gets a little timid and usually drops to the ground within a few seconds. But against the wall, he can stand all day long! Every milestone with your baby makes you realize how quickly time can go, but the view changes so much once they are able to stand up! I mean really, a baby who has never been on their own two feet looks so strange standing and proudly smiling at you. I probably overuse the word sweet, but seriously, this boy is so sweet.

3. Open Cups

Jackson has been majorly resisting drinking out of a cup without a lid. He seriously freaks out whenever we give him a cup, even if it is adorned with robots and characters from Finding Dory! I saw these cups and am thinking of giving them a try. The price tag is a little steep, so I am curious if any other mamas have tried these out? And, just general advice on how to get a kiddo to drink from an open cup!

4. Blush Flats (and basically all of the blush things)

Continuing on with my blush obsession (I know I'm not the only one!) I just stumbled across these flats at Old Navy. Seriously, how cute are they!? I love the crochet design, the pointed toe, everything. They come in a number of other neutral colors, too. I do not know if Old Navy can do any wrong lately! This tote would be adorable paired with the shoes, or this bucket bag. And finally, I don't know if anything beats a pair of blush skinnies. LOVE! I own multiple pairs of the rockstar jeans from Old Navy (in tall), and they seriously are amazing. They are mid rise, meaning no muffin top, have tons of stretch, but hold their shape. They are fantastic!

5. Best Friends

After ten months of what I would consider tolerating each other, my boys are becoming real life friends right in front of my eyes, and it is about as much sweetness (see, there it is again, the word sweet) as my heart can handle. Jackson is always asking for Lincoln to sit next to him on the couch, and whenever Lincoln babbles, Jackson just beams and declares 'Lincoln talk to Jackson!' He is so very proud, and I have tears in my eyes just thinking about how their relationship is blossoming. Jackson has discovered how to jump on the bed, and now loves to go upstairs and insist Lincoln goes with. He invites him into his room, and will ask 'Lincoln sit on bed'. I will help Lincoln bounce (which he loves) and both boys dissolve into a fit of giggles. Watching them start to explore the world together is everything I have been waiting for and dreamed of. You all know I don't sugar coat life, and I don't pretend that life with two was perfect and easy. It may have taken ten months, but my boys are finally becoming friends and it is one of my favorite experiences I have had as a mother.

We are off to look at the sharks and enjoy a lunch at the Rainforest Café. I hope you all have a fabulous weekend!

Jackson at 2.5

I don't know why, but 2 and a half hit me hard. I think that to me, a two year old is still a baby, and so at that last birthday, he was still wearing diapers (okay, he still is now too), didn't talk much, and was still just so much my baby. And now, as we hit that marker that puts us closer to age three than two, it hurts my heart a little bit. I mean, three year olds are starting things like preschool screening. They have real opinions and conversations. Those chubby baby cheeks are all but gone. Can I just keep my baby forever? I know I can't. And while how quickly time flies has really hit me lately, I am so in love with the little man that Jackson is becoming. He is becoming more independent every single day, and has so much love to give. He also has shoves and pushes to give if you cross him ;-) He is truly becoming such a little boy, and we are so proud of how far he has come.

Speech

Of course, one of the biggest areas of accomplishment for us continues to be Jackson's speech. He is still doing speech therapy about once a month, but he says so much now! He will repeat just about everything that he hears, and get so excited when he figures new words out. He is a little sponge, and loves to go through his books and identify every single object on the page for us. He pretty consistently speaks in 3-4 word sentences, and is really starting to establish the concept of ownership in his words. For example, in the past few weeks whenever I pick him up from daycare, any child in his presence gets an icy stare as he proclaims, "no no, MINE mommy". Glad to know he doesn't want to share me ;-) He will tell his brother 'no no Lincoln, Seeson's (aka Jackson's) cup', 'no no Lincoln, mine toy'. Basically everything is 'no no, Lincoln'. My poor second child, already being bossed around by his big brother.

His vocabulary really changes every day, so I love to document favorite things he has been saying at this stage.

"Thank you" - he says thank you unprompted, and it is just the sweetest, most heart melting thing I have ever heard. To give him things like water or a treat, or help him take off his coat and have him look up at me with a 'thank you, mommy'. Just about cry even thinking about it.

"See-son" - this is how he says Jackson, and I secretly hope he never corrects himself. It is so darn cute.

"Duck go potty" - from his new book about potty training.

"Big duck now" - also from his book. It is just so precious how he reads it to himself. He pronounces every word so clearly, and leaves a pause between each one. He is so proud when he says it.

"NO mo beepers" - no more diapers. He got this from the book, as well. Now if only he would apply this concept ;-)

"ABERT MOAR" - Albert the bear, his Valentine's gift.

"YEAH BABY" - pretty self explanatory. And I don't think it will ever stop being adorable.

"Pizza NOW" - Grandma taught him this one, and he thinks it is hilarious.

"New ha-seat" - new carseat, which he got about a month ago and he is still pretty darn thrilled about.

"Inky Hinky" - Stinky Linky. Lincoln's nickname. Again, I apologize to you, second child.

"boo-boo-ber-hies" - blueberries, which have been one of his favorites from day one!

"niahouse" - he started off by calling his grandma's 'nia', so we would say it was time to go to grandma's house, and he evolved to putting both words together so that his loving grandma's are just called 'niahouse'.

Asking 'how big are you' expecting to be asked in return, to which he replies 'so big!' He picked this up when we play that game with Lincoln, but he is so sweet when he says it. Melt my heart.

"In-kin" -Lincoln. He really is getting better and better at saying his brother's name!

Milestones

We are working with Jackson on taking the steps to pick up 'big boy' habits. He is not potty trained yet, however he has started sitting on the potty chair pretty consistently, and has gone in it! He is not fully comfortable but I know we are not too far off from the process. Fingers crossed by age three we are done with diapers! I do not think he is going to be one of those kids that is motivated to train himself, so I anticipate a good amount of bribery and commitment is going to be required!

Lincoln outgrew his infant carrier carseat, and after figuring out our options, it ended up making the most sense to move Lincoln into Jackson's convertible seat and to buy a combination chair for Jackson. He will be able to use this through the end, and as it doesn't have the ability to be rear facing, it is much more sleek and lightweight. He LOVES his new carseat, and thinks it is just the coolest thing ever.

He has really progressed with eating too, and we are finally able to give him food that isn't cut up into tiny pieces. Which saves time for us and makes him think he is so big. We have probably been over cautious, but we have taken our sweet time giving him whole chicken nuggets or sandwiches that aren't cut up. But he loves eating whole foods! This now means that he will totally melt down if he is given half of a cookie. Or if we tear off a piece of our sandwich for him. And last week, Mike stirred his cereal into his milk and the world practically ended. He is getting more and more independent, and is quick to remind us of it!

For little things, he has started to dance, and when a good beat comes on he will announce 'DANCING' and will get up and shake his little tush. Of course, his dance moves are more along the lines of quickly stepping and flapping his hands, but it is cute nonetheless. There is an episode of the office where they start off doing a lip sync to the song Nobody But Me and whenever we play it he gets so excited and sings 'NO NO NO NO NO' and gets right to dancing. Unless others are watching, he gets pretty timid to perform in front of people!

They aren't lying when they call them the terrible two's. Despite his fierce sweetness, he also has a fierce temper. We are working on not hitting and pushing when things don't go his way, and timeouts happen pretty regularly lately. He will often thrown himself onto the floor in hysterics over the littlest things, like say, breaking a cookie in half. Oh the horror! To really try to get us, he will go over to something on a table, look at us with a stern face, and slowly push the item to the floor. It's frustrating, but it is also so darn funny and we often catch ourselves trying not to laugh during his little outbursts. Despite the hard times that go along with this phase, he is also quick to cuddle, give a kiss, and go about his way afterwards.

Favorite Things

All winter, it was all about snowmen. He still loves them, but the obsession has subsided a bit. He loves to ask us to draw snowmen for him, especially on his magnetic drawing board. Draw snowman, erase snowman, repeat. And when it isn't a snowman, it is a robot. He has robot pajamas, and a collection of robot plates from the Target dollar spot that I stocked up on during Valentine's Day. And they are the only plates he will eat off of (thank goodness I got more than one!)

His most recent obsession is without question Toy Story. It started with my parents buying him a Mr. Potato Head, and since then he has received all three Toy Story movies, a pair of Buzz Lightyear pajamas, and may or may not have a Buzz action figure coming his way soon ;-) One of his first requests every morning is 'Toy Story oovie!?'. Which is why we bought all three. After about the tenth time of watching the original daddy was about to lose his marbles!

He has really started to interact with Lincoln more lately. He loves to request for Lincoln to sit next to him on the couch. He will put his arm around Lincoln's shoulders and cuddle in for a movie. It is the sweetest thing. He also loves to encourage him to crawl up the stairs after him, despite mom asking him not to. He has even been caught sharing toys with him, of course he is also quick to steal those toys back, but it is progress. One of his favorite things to do is match his little brother. They don't have too many matching outfits, but there are a few t-shirts and pairs of pajamas. And if Lincoln is wearing his snowman jammies, you better believe Jackson wants to wear his. He gets so excited he can barely contain himself when I dress Lincoln in a t-shirt and then tell him he gets to wear the same one. Sweet boy.

Time is moving all too fast, but every day with Jackson is truly a new adventure. He is such a little sponge, repeating everything we say, following us around, and developing such an independent personality. He is the greatest joy to have around, and for the most part is the happiest, most cheerful little boy. We are so lucky to call him ours. Now stop growing, please!

Easter Baskets for Littles

We are already a week into Lent, say what. I just love Easter. Of course as a Catholic, the meaning behind Easter is so very special. But I also love that it is during spring, brings out all of the pretty pastel colors, and inspires celebrating new life! I love to treat my kiddos to Easter baskets, but really try to keep the gifts to a minimum. And really, I like to put in practical items that I would likely buy them anyway ;-)

We got Jackson the Happy Valentine's Day Mouse book, and he loves it! I am thinking this Happy Easter, Mouse! book needs to be added to our collection.

We received Home for a Bunny as a hand-me-down book, and I do not know what it is, but Jackson was so obsessed with this book! It is really sweet, and I love that it is a 'classic' book. I highly recommend!

I dare you to try and find a toddler who is not obsessed with Play-Doh. We typically reserve it as a treat and bust it out only occasionally, because with our little guy it usually requires some close supervision. But these easter eggs are super cute and would be such a fun gift!

There is something so sentimental about the Charlie Brown holiday movies, so adding It's the Easter Beagle, Charlie Brown is fun for both mom and the kids! ;-)

One of my favorite things about this time of year is the start of transitioning from winter to spring/summer clothing. And obviously, I have a pajama problem, so this is always the perfect opportunity to thrown in a summer option for when it starts to warm up. These shark jammies are perfect for my big boy. And for my baby who still can use a bit extra to cover him up at night, these organic jammies are so precious yet lightweight and a nice break from all of the fleece he has been wearing all winter!

This HOP sweatshirt is an updated version of one that I had wanted for Jackson a few years back and never bought. It is SO cute, and perfect for spring as it is a good transitional piece, nice and lightweight!

We have a tendency to leave all of the toys on the bathtub bottom. The boys are the only ones who use the upstairs tub, so we never have to pick them up. I think it is about time we get a bath organizer to clean things up and have somewhere to put the five million letters and toys that have a permanent place in the bath time routine.

And speaking of bath time, my kiddos always tend to try to play with or bump into the drain. I get nervous as it could hurt them if they hit it right, so this bath tub stopper is a great option to keep them safe!

My kids are always more excited to drink when it is out of a fun cup. This bunny cup is so cute, and how precious is this milk bottle one, too!?

As we prep for warmer temps, I typically can't wait to buy some new swimwear for my kiddos. Jackson LOVES the pool, and I am dying to get them both in the water! This little pair of swimtrunks is so darn cute I can hardly stand it!! Jackson would look precious in this little pair, too. There is not much sweeter than a babe in swim trunks, except for maybe a baby in fresh jammies ;-)

Of course, I can't do an Easter basket without throwing in some candy, and these jelly beans have, and will always be, the absolute best! Lincoln isn't quite up to the jelly bean level yet, but I think he could manage a bite or two of the classis Peeps ;-)

Lincoln: 10 Months

Our little man was 10 months old this weekend! I cannot believe how fast the time is flying, and how quickly we are approaching the one year mark *sob*. This month, our babe has bonded a bit more with big brother, and he continues to get into whatever trouble he can manage. He is a little daredevil, constantly on the go and giving us a heart attack. He is also snuggly, smily, and silly. He is quick to give a smile, and his smile will melt the heart of absolutely anyone. He is such a joy to have around!

 

 

Age: 10 months

Height: I seem to have a hard time getting a 100% accurate measurement on this, I blame a squirmy baby and a less than stellar tape measurer. However, Somewhere in the ballpark of 31-31.5 inches. Either measurement puts him right at the top of the charts in the 99th percentile. He is still wearing 12-18 month clothing, especially in his pants. He has started wearing some 18-24 month stuff, partly because his mama got the urge to go through Jackson's next box of old clothing and it just made sense to pull it all out at once. Some of it is a little bit big, but for the most part it all is starting to fit pretty well! He is wearing size 4 shoes, and size 4 diapers. 

Weight: 25 pounds. Little chunk keeps on growing! This puts him around the 98th percentile still.  He really isn't all that chunky at all though, there aren't many rolls to him. He is just a BIG guy across the board!

Milestones: While very brief, he has stood on his own for about five seconds! He is very funny about standing and walking, though. He is either in the mood or he is not. And if he isn't, the little stinker won't even bear weight on his legs! I really can't predict exactly when I think he will be walking, but if I had to guess I would say it will be right around when he turns one. He has started cruising along the furniture, so he is getting there! 

 

Sleep: This month was not the best sleep month. Between teething and a week long sickness, his schedule has been pretty thrown off. Now that he finally seems to be on the mend, we are hoping to get him back on schedule. 

Best Moments: He is really just the sweetest little thing, there are so many precious moments with him lately. He has started to babble a lot, and after he eats early in the morning, he will typically break away and talk so softly. And he has the sweetest voice, I could listen to those babbles all day long!

 

Worst Moments: Definitely dealing with sickness. He came down with a fever on a Monday, and really wasn't back to acting like himself until Saturday. After four days of fever, it broke and he then got a rash, so while it isn't an official doctor's diagnosis, I am pretty sure it was roseola based on that and all of his other symptoms (swollen lymph nodes, loss of appetite, general fatigue). Poor little guy had a rough couple of days. There is just never anything worse than having to watch your baby be sick.

Eating: He continues to eat like a champ! Whenever he sees food coming, he starts breathing really fast through his nose, which he also does when he is excited about being picked up or given a bottle. He scrunches up his little nose and squints his eyes while he does it. It is so darn cute! He is developing a few food preferences, and go figure,  vegetables really are not at the top of his list. He also wanted nothing to do with barbeque meatballs. We have started introducing meats, but as they are a bit harder for babies to chew, I have been pretty slow in letting him try those. He continues to love blueberries, corn, cereal bars, string cheese, yogurt, pastas, and pizza. He isn't too crazy about fruits like banana and peaches, but he will eat them. He has refused butternut squash, black beans, and potato rounds, however he will eat mashed potatoes!

 

We are still nursing when he wakes up and before bed. Throughout the day, the pump has been put away (YAY!), and he is receiving bottles of pumped milk, both during the week and now on the weekends as well. He takes bottles well, and now will drink milk hot or cold. He still prefers nursing, and so when he is sick or in a bad mood that is what he will fight for over the bottle!

Teeth: He has three teeth, and the fourth will be through any day. And they are coming in out of order! He got his side top teeth before his front teeth, so fingers crossed he cuts those soon, otherwise he is going to be one cute little vampire baby!

Likes: He is still loving bath time! He also got his first taste of playing outside and LOVES it! He had so much fun just picking up and examining all of the leaves. He loves string cheese and blueberries most. Loves to snuggle, and if the mood is right he loves to cozy in to rock to sleep, which is such a treat. Likes car rides most of the time. Gets so excited whenever we walk up the stairs, he always smiles and flaps his little arms like crazy! Loves puppies. Loves any toys that make noise. Still likes the baby channel, but has also been caught giggling at Wallykazam. Everyone in this house loves Wally!!

 

Dislikes: In all honesty Jackson knows how to push his buttons like no other! He can make him laugh so hard but he also has to do one tiny think and Lincoln will scream his head off. He does not like butternut squash and is starting to get a bit more picky with his foods. He is not a fan of having orajel put on his gums at all! Hates whenever his mama is in his presence but someone else is holding him. Dislikes sleeping through the night lately...hopefully that one is off the list next month!

Sweet Lincoln, we love you more and more every day. You are the perfect balance to our family and remind us every day to go with the flow a bit more and just let life happen. You are so perfect and we love you to pieces!

Friday Favorites: First of March

Happy Friday, friends! Without fail, we managed to have a sick kiddo for the entirety of this week, which is just no fun. Everyone is pretty tired from a streak of long nights, and I cannot wait for the weekend to relax and recharge. The forecast is promising us some more spring-like weather and days with temperatures in the 50's, so I cannot complain about that one bit!

1. Toy Story

My parents purchased Jackson a Mr. Potato Head a month or two ago, and since then, he has become pretty darn obsessed. So, naturally as a little Valentine's Day gift my mom had to go and find the movie for him. And he is now obsessed with that and we watch it on repeat. Mike even bought Toy Story 2, not so much for Jackson as for himself, because he could not stand to watch the original one more time! Naturally, he has discovered all of the other characters, and loves to talk about Buzz Lightyear and Woody. Well, I about died when I saw these jammies at the Gap. I KNOW YOU GUYS, I KNOW. STOP BUYING PAJAMAS MACKENSEY. I just can't help it. True story, they were supposed to go in his Easter basket, but I clearly have no self control so he rocked them immediately last night. I am going to need therapy when my children outgrow me buying them pajamas.
 

2. All the Pineapple Things

If you didn't catch it earlier this week, I rounded up all of the amazing and adorable pineapple things out right now. From apparel to home décor, I covered it all (and I want it all)! The bookends are my absolute favorite, and I am thinking I definitely need them in my life!

3. Cracker Chips

I don't know about everyone else, but give me a bag of sour cream and onion potato chips and I am on a dangerous and slippery slope. I fully admit to looking down and realizing I have eaten half of a bag in one sitting. I love chips so much! Well, recently I discovered these Special K cracker chips and they are seriously so good! Even if you manage to put down the entire bag, the calories are pretty low, but they are actually filling and really go a long way. I have started keeping these on hand for when I am having a salty craving, and dare I say I enjoy them almost as much as actual potato chips, and are definitely worth making the swap.

4. Mantel Décor

I am finally getting around to decorating my mantel! I was so excited about that thing when we were building, but lately it has been such a headache to me with figuring out how to hide the TV cords, how to fill it without making it seem cluttered, and of course figuring out how to hide our blue-ray player and surge protector. They are so darn ugly! First world problems, but these are the things I think about! I did so much looking online and finally decided I want to try out putting a planter box across the middle with some fake flowers. I found some tutorials online, and as my father in law works with wood a lot, I am heading over there this weekend and can likely pull this project off at almost no cost! I am so excited to get started, now my biggest question is whether to paint it or stain it?

5. Fun Vases

Speaking of the mantel, last weekend I set on a mission to at least find something to start filling that space. While browsing Target, I stumbled across this vase, and it was on clearance! I ended up buying both the large and small one for less than $20 combined! I was not sure about them when I first purchased, but once I added a pop of color with a hydraenga stem, I fell in love!

 They brighten it up so much! I threw a lantern on the other side and added a prelit candle, and I am already amazed but how much more homey the living room feels.

I hope everyone has a great weekend ahead, whether it be exciting or relaxing. I honestly cannot believe it is already March! Spring is going to be here before we know it!

Confessions

It has been quite some time since I participated in a good ole 'fesh sesh over here. I swear life just always feels crazy and like it needs to slow down! I am linking up with Danielle to share what has been going on in this head over here!


I confess..


I am so sick of my kiddos getting sick. Dealing with one kiddo can be stressful enough, but I am kind of the designated 'stay home' parent when sickness happens, and we have been so slammed this year I swear I am blowing through all of my vacation days. We are battling what seems like influenza with Lincoln this week, and I am just feeling so out of it.


My Tuesday nights become a major source of depression on the weeks when This Is Us is not on. Like, what am I supposed to do with that hour of my night now???


I am ready for spring. Not really a big surprise, but after our major teaser with warm weather a week or two ago, I am SO ready. It is supposed to warm up again this weekend, and I cannot wait.


I despise making my toddler brush his teeth. So it doesn't happen nearly often enough. I would probably mind it less if he was excited to do it, but half of the time it is such a battle, I tell myself he didn't eat too much sugar, decide it isn't worth it, and just put him to bed with dirty teeth. I know, ick.


I also despise bath time. It really doesn't end up being that much of a process, but our weeknights are so busy with getting home, getting dinner on the table, sticking to bedtimes, that throwing baths in there just makes me cranky a lot of the time. We usually do baths every other day, but on weeks where we are extra worn down, sometimes that gets stretched out an extra day..


I confess that I realize this post is making me sound like a neglectful mother. My kids don't seem to mind, so I suppose that's what matters most ;-)


I am so obsessed with everything PINEAPPLE lately. There are so many cute items out there, whether it is for the home or apparel, and I am 100% onboard with this trend.


I am finally getting around to decorating our fireplace mantel, slowly but surely. We got a new TV and mounted it on the wall, and I have a plan, so I think it will get there and I cannot wait for it to look complete. In the meantime, I am really liking the few pieces I have added so far.

I was going to do reds in our living room, but because all of our wood trim and cabinets are such a dark oak, I decided to brighten up the space and am instead going the route of whites, creams, and little pops of color in blue and green.


I felt so proud of myself yesterday for only drinking black coffee, as I am giving up buying any coffee from places like Starbucks or Caribou for Lent. It is really sad that I am as proud as I am.


I have barely enough thought about planning Lincoln's first birthday party, and I am quickly realizing it is only two months away, so I really need to get moving on some of the pieces!


I was out of the office the first half of the week at a training, but I am still SO glad we are coming up on the weekend! Friday is my favorite day of the week!

All Things Pineapple: The Most Delicious Trend!

You guys! We are already halfway to the weekend! I spent the first half of the week at a work training, so today is my first day in the office this week, which definitely has me feeling a bit off kilter. Not only are we halfway through the week, but it is MARCH! It is such a good feeling to get through the brutal month of February every year. March in the Midwest still mean lots of snow and cold, but it is the home stretch. Soon enough, we will be able to start rocking spring dresses and cute shorts, and I cannot wait.
This year, I have noticed everything pineapple is the trend. Which is fine by me, because you know what is better than pineapple? Nothing. I am also wanting fun pieces for the mantel, and I don't know why but I am obsessed with the idea of having a shiny, pretty pineapple to put up there. I am always looking for a delicious smelling body wash, so anything that smells like pineapple is an absolute win in my book!
