Friday Favorites-First of 2017!

Okay. Most weeks drag and I am so ready for the weekend. And while I am always up for my days off, I cannot believe how fast this week went by. I had Monday off, and was entirely out of the office Tuesday and Wednesday at a training, and then gone in meetings all day yesterday. I literally have not seen my desk in a week, even though I wasn't on vacation. For the first time in a while, I am feeling a little frazzled and trying to play catch up! Cheers to the weekend, and surviving our sub-zero temperatures that have me wanting to cuddle up under the blankets and never get out of my yoga pants.

1. Eating better
I am not the best at following diets. I was pregnant. Then nursing. Then pregnant again. And now am still nursing. So I really have not been able to just be 'normal' in my diet in habits for quite some time. But they got bad the past few months. Like, eating whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted, and usually including pizza and ice cream on the regular. But this week Mike and I both decided to kick it into gear and really make a conscious effort to eat better. Not a diet, but a change. I am still going to have a drink or two on the weekends. I am still enjoying something sweet at night, but I am maybe having one salted caramel instead of an entire bowl of ice cream. And we would die without pizza. Die. But we agreed that once or twice a month is doable instead of once or twice a week. A few days of watching what we eat and adding in more vegetables, and I seriously already feel better. Less bloated. Fewer cravings. Empowered because I had to leave to get lunch this week, and resisted the drive thru even though the waffle fries were calling my name. I will never say I am going to eat nothing but chicken and veggies, because food is one of our greatest gifts, in my opinion. It has the power to bring people together, let us experience new things, and challenges us when it comes to trying new recipes. But for the first time in what I can honestly say is a very long time, I really am feeling good about how I am eating!

2. Sweater
It is absolutely freezing here, and unfortunately winter is the most dragged out season ever, so there is no end in sight for us right now. While the weather makes it hard to enjoy being outdoors, it is a good excuse to load up on as many cute and cozy sweaters as possible. This option just came out and I am absolutely swooning. Love the color, love the braided detail, love it all. I am basically obsessed with everything that BP makes!

3. Surf Spray
So my sister works in a salon, and was able to score me some surf spray about a year ago at a killer price. I became totally hooked and surf spray has replaced hairspray in my routine. It is great for adding some texture after you style your hair with a curling iron, but also is great for days you don't have time to do your hair (because as a working mom I can tell you that happens a ridiculous amount of the time) to add a little bit of style to totally undone locks. Enter surf spray. It smells delicious, adds great texture, and is less than $5. My sister who has more hair and makeup products that I can count tried it out, and she is hooked now too! I am not knocking the more expensive stuff, but for every day, this stuff is seriously amazing!

4. Cocktails
For whatever reason, we have never tried out making our own cocktails. Sure we have wine on hand, and I love to mix up my Malibu and Diet. But really cocktails? Nope, never on our radar. And then we built our house, and magically have a newfound desire to do all of those traditional 'homey' things that adults are supposed to do. Mike got me a cocktail kit for Christmas, and we just added this shaker as well! I love that it allows you to line up different drinks and shows you the exact ingredients. It is seriously built in recipes, which is the best! We bought ingredients for blueberry long island iced teas, and I cannot wait to give mixing one up a try!

5. Babies
My kids are just really cute. And lately it has reached the point that I cannot even handle it. Babies in jammies. Babies wearing mismatched shoes. Babies snuggling up with me to watch cartoons. My heart is full, and my boys are everything.

Hope you all have a great weekend, and are able to stay warm!

  1. Happy Friday! I am working on eating healthier too - it's so hard in the winter when it's cold, I have no motivation to cook after work! We love making cocktails too - so much fun! Hope you have a great weekend :)

    1. I know winters are so easy to have crock pot meals and comfort foods. We have been eating a lot of salads which we love-let's see how long that lasts until we get bored!

  2. My husband is the cocktail maker here and he usually makes them manly if you know what i mean - ie whiskey and bourbon so I need to get him to figure out how to make cocktails that i would drink lol!! I've been really good this week (haha the first week is always easy) of eating healthier so here's hoping it'll carry over into next week! xo, Biana -BlovedBoston

  4. Girl I'm with you: I got SO lazy with my eating right after Halloween and looked up after the holidays and was so disappointed in myself! I'm trying to get back on track, too, and just making better choices when it comes to eating and drinking. And yes, totally obsessed with my babies...they're all over my social media because they're just so darn cute I can't quit it!

    1. The holidays are terrible, and I think having recently had babies anyway made this year even harder because HELLO stress eating and adjusting to losing the baby weight. I think your babies are pretty darn cute too. Please continue to share because I always get a kick out of both of them!

  5. I did the same thing... I got super lazy around Thanksgiving about eating and working out and I felt yuck at the beginning of this month. We've been back at it this week eating healthier and I'm finally starting to feel better! Happy weekend!

    1. Isn't it amazing the difference when you clean it up!? It hasn't even been so much about losing weight (of course I am glad to see the extra 'holiday' pounds go away) but it's just less bloated, less foggy, just BETTER. Have a great weekend mama! I hear you guys are in for a blizzard ;-)

    1. Girl you have the best excuse to ever exist to indulge a bit extra :-) But it can be tricky to maintain eating healthy when pregnant for sure. I hope your last trimester is easy and as comfortable as possible mama!

  10. Your babies are adorable!! And cuddles are the best. I am so excited for your success so far in eating better. That's so so tough and it's such a great feeling to resist the chicken and fries from time to time. I need to get there. And hello surf spray. I'm in. I'll try anything. I need all the time I can get. Hope you have an amazing weekend!!
